GOETH, AND THE PORTAL OF TIME

Johann Wolfgang von Goeth
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe ,(Frankfurt am Main, August 28, 1749 - Weimar, 22 March 1832) was a German writer and thinker who also raided the field of science. As a writer, Goethe was one of the most important figures of German literature and European Romanticism, in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Through the novel The Sorrows of Young Werther, Goethe became famous throughout Europe in the year 1774. Later, with the maturing of his literary output, and also influenced by German writer Friedrich Schiller, Goethe became the most important author of Weimar Classicism. Goethe is still considered the most important German writer whose work has influenced the literature of the world.

    Canção do Rei de Thule
    Goethe

Houve um rei de Thule, que era
mais fiel do que nenhum rei.
A amante, ao morrer, lhe dera
um copo de ouro de lei.

Era o bem que mais prezava
    e mais gostava de usar:
    e quanto mais o esvaziava
mais enchia de água o olhar.

    Quando sentiu que morria,
    o seu reino inventariou,
    e tudo quanto possuía
    menos o copo, doou.

    Depois, sentando-se à mesa,
    fez os vassalos chamar
    à sala de mais nobreza
    do castelo, sobre o mar.

    E ele ergue-se acabrunhado,
    bebe o último gole então
    e atira o copo sagrado

  23. HARRY KENT:
    Hello Harry, my friend:
Thanks for coming leave your well informed comment!
I can see that Mr. Harry used the front door of the "TIME PORTAL"
and acknowledged the message I wanted to pass, when I put the name of Mr. Goethe, the protagonist of this work
Congratulations Mr Harry for your wisdom:)

Roda created by Goethe in 1810No nineteenth century poet Goethe fell in love with the color question, and spent thirty years trying to finish what he considered his magnum opus: a treatise on colors that would put down the theory of Newton.

The main objection from Goethe to Newton was that white light could not consist of colors, each one darker than white. Thus he advocated the idea of the colors are a result of interaction of light with the "no light or darkness.

For example, the experiment of light split into colors when passing through a prism was explained by him as a translucent effect of the medium (glass) fading to white light. The yellow would be the impression conveyed in the eye by white light coming toward us through a translucent medium. The sun and moon appear yellowish on its light passing through the atmosphere to reach us. Already the blue would be the result of leakage of light from us to the darkness. The sky is blue because the light reflected from the earth back into the black space through the atmosphere. Likewise the sea, where light penetrates a few meters into the dark background. Or the distant mountains that appear blue. Green would be the neutralization of blue and yellow. As in the shallow sea or a swimming pool, where the reflected light at the bottom comes in our direction (yellow) while the sun goes toward the bottom (blue). The intensification of the blue, that is very weak light to go into the darkness becomes purple, the same way that yellow intensified, as the rising sun, the weaker, and having to go through a major route of atmosphere to our eye is very red.

The interpretation of the rainbow is so modified. Both extremes tend to red, which represents the maximum weakening of the light.

And he actually discovered that Newton ignored aspects of the physiology and psychology of color. Observed retention of the colors in the retina, the tendency of the human eye to see the edges of a complementary color, noted that white objects always appear larger than blacks.

Also reinterpreted the color pigments of Le Blon, renaming them purple, yellow and light blue, approaching very accurately the current ink magenta, yellow and cyan used in industrial printing.

But Goethe's remarks hurt anything in Newton's theory, part of the enormous prestige of the English physicist and partly because their explanations for the phenomena were often unsatisfactory and he was not proposing any scientific method to prove their thesis. Its publication "Theory of Colors" was discredited in the scientific community, did not arouse interest among artists and was very complex for lay people.

His remarks were rescued in the early twentieth century by scholars and the gestalt of modern painters like Paul Klee and Kandinsky.

Currently, the study of color theory in the universities is divided into three stories with the same characteristics as Goethe proposed for color: the color physical (optical physics), the color of saline (physiological optics) and color chemistry (physical chemistry perspective).
The content is basically Newton's theory plus modern observations on waves. Goethe's studies can still be found in psychology books, art and even children's books that present optical illusions.
